SISTER PAULA'S STATEMENT OF FAITH
SISTER PAULA'S STATEMENT OF FAITH
The late Kathryn Kuhlman often said:
ANY TRUTH, NO MATTER HOW VALID, IF EMPHASIZED TO THE EXCLUSION OF OTHER TRUTH OF EQUAL IMPORTANCE, IS ERROR.
We must build our Christian experience on a solid foundation of fundamental truth. No one generation is able to receive all of the truth of God. When Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would lead us into "all truth", this means FURTHER truth -- the expanding revelation of the Infinite. Further truth EXPANDS basic truth. And I dare not be presumptuous to say that my beliefs are " the truth" and anyone who disagrees with me is in "error."
I don't expect my friends to agree with everything I say. As a Pentecostal Christian, I have many friends in other denominations, and systems of teaching, who believe differently than I do.
As finite creatures, we cannot, and dare not, confine God to our little Augustinian theological jar. Now we see "through a glass darkly", "through a mirror", "dimly". "Now I know in part..." (I Corinthians 13:12).
I BELIEVE the Bible contains the Word of God and is God's revelation to humankind, written under Divine inspiration. It must be applied and interpreted in connection with the culture and context under which it was written.
I BELIEVE in the Triune God -- three, yet one -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All three personifications of God were active in the creation account of Genesis 1. Jesus was the "Logos" as taught in John 1.
I BELIEVE that Jesus, when here on earth, was just as much man as through He were not God -- yet, just as much God as though He were not man.
I BELIEVE that "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God," (Romans 3:23) and are in need of salvation.
I BELIEVE that a Holy God cannot look upon sin -- God sees us through the righteousness of His only begotten Son. As in the Old Testament, quoting the beloved hymn -- "When I see the blood, I will pass over you."
I BELIEVE in the salvation provided for all humanity, through Christ's death on the Cross. Christ took the punishment that you and I deserved. To do this, Jesus Himself was without sin -- hence the necessity for His virgin birth.
I BELIEVE that "whosoever will" may call on the name of the Lord and be saved -- including people of all sexual orientations.
I BELIEVE that a person will have the desire to be saved when, and as, the Holy Spirit convicts of him or her of sin.
I BELIEVE that we are saved by grace, and not good works. However, when one is saved, good works will automatically follow.
I BELIEVE in water baptism by immersion, once a person has accepted Christ as his or her personal Saviour.
I BELIEVE in the work of the Holy Spirit by regeneration when one is saved. The work of the Holy Spirit in empowering the believer for service, called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, is an experience separate and apart from salvation. When a person is baptized with the Holy Spirit, they will speak in tongues. Being "filled with the Holy Spirit" is an ongoing day-by-day experience. The true "evidence" of the infilling of the Holy Spirit is agape love manifested in and through the life of a Christian. I Cor. 13.
I BELIEVE that deliverance from sin AND sickness is included in Christ's atoning work on the Cross.
I BELIEVE that we are living in the "dispensation of grace" which commenced on the day of Pentecost, and which will end with the rapture of the Church. Today we can expect the same miraculous demonstrations of the supernatural as was experienced in the Apostolic church, recorded in the book of Acts.
I BELIEVE that while a Christian does not deliberately sin. Yet, we are "sinners saved by grace" -- and in need of ongoing forgiveness.
I BELIEVE in the existence of a literal devil, a person whom Jesus came face-to-face with when being led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted. God's power within the believer is greater than the power of the devil.
I BELIEVE that every person has the freedom of choice. Each person experiences the consequences of his or her choices, good or bad.
I BELIEVE that we "reap what we sow" and that we are judged in the same way we judge others. This Divine law, or principle, is often referred to as "karma", be it good or bad.
I BELIEVE in Christ's second coming - the rapture of the Church, the seven year tribulation - Christ returning with His church to split the Mount of Olives and set up His kingdom in a new earth for 1,000 years, called the millenieum.
I BELIEVE that every person stand before God and give an account for their lives in the final judgment. An all knowing God looks on the heart of every person, and knows every thought and inner motivation for what they do. This is why God can, and will, judge each person fairly.
I BELIEVE that other systems of teaching -- metaphysical, eastern thought, and other religions, teach many of the same things as do Christians, only with different semantics. Every human being is created in God's image and is made up of body, soul, and spirit. Everyone is born with an innate God consciousness of a Higher Power, and with an inborn sense of right and wrong.
MY HOPE IS BUILT ON NOTHING LESS,
THAN JESUS BLOOD, AND RIGHTEOUSNESS.
I DARE NOT TRUST THE SWEETEST FRAME,
BUT WHOLLY LEAN ON JESUS NAME.
